Topsail is the annual publication of The Society for Sailing Barge Research. It features illustrated articles about the history of sailing barges, their crews and cargoes. It is now almost 50 years since the last cargo was carried by sailing barge, but still the stories of that life continue to come to light and make their way into the public domain via Topsail’s pages. Although academic as to its detail, the anecdotes that go hand in hand with the subject matter make Topsail a reassuringly easy, yet informative read.
